Six Feet Under review….

Okay man oh man how I wish I could have watched this series in real time. I started watching this a couple months ago when I stumbled upon it while scrolling on Netflix. I tried to binge it as much as I could but some days it was hard.

If you have never watched Six Feet Under, I suggest not reading this post. However, if you are curious about it then please feel free to continue to read on.

This show is about the Fisher family who own a funeral home and live within the home. You have the mom, who is really delicate and very senstive. She dresses like someone from the house in the prairie. Honestly she wasn’t my favorite character.

Next we have the dad, who literally dies within the first couple of episodes of season one. But don’t fret, he’s always around lurking. Coming to his children or his wife or even someone that was close to him. He seemed to live a miserable life and also had a secret life. He would venture to a secret room that was in the vicinity of a Mexican restaruant. We were told he wanted to go there veg out.

Son # 1 Nate Jr. He was set to live in Seattle but then ended up coming to back to Los Angeles when his father died. He really didn’t know what to do in life but ended up being a funeral director like his old man and his younger brother David. Nate lived almost a carefree life, I say almost because he was complicated. He wanted to do what he wanted but always had something in the back of his head that bugged him. He was eventually diagnosed with AVM, which has something to do with a brain aneurysm. He had to get an embolism so it could be temporarily taken care of. Nate eventually succumbed to his death in the final season of Six Feet Under, which honestly left me with tears streaming down my face. He was definately one of my favorite characters of the show.

Son # 2 David. David always seemed like he had something to prove. He was always trying to be perfect. He walked in his father’s footsteps becoming a funeral director. He had a battle from within realizing that he was gay. He eventually came out of the closet and ended up with a relationsip with a man from the start all the way until the very end of the series, whom we have come to love.

Daughter, Claire. I loved Claire, she was kind of a bad ass and she knew what she wanted. She wanted to be an artist. That was her goal in life. She was determined and ambitious. However, she had her demons. She couldn’t have a normal healthy relationship. She found herself ending up with men who were “needy”. In the end though she found her person and her success.

This show got me going from the start. With it’s humor and with its drama. The characters were thought of exquisitely. All the actors were amazing in this show and I couldn’t possily think about anyone else playing them. :

Nate Fisher Jr. played by Peter Krause

Claire Fisher played by Lauren Ambrose

David Fisher played by Michael C. Hall (Dexter)

Ruth Fisher (mom) playedby Frances Conroy

Nathanial Fisher Sr. played by Richard Jenkins

Like I said excellent choice in characters. So anyway the story had many ups and downs. A lot of having to do with the owning of a funeral home, but also a lot of relationship stuff.

I enjoyed this series so much and when the end came I cried hard and it stuck with me. I was involved with this people. It was like I was living with this people and experiencing everything they were going through. Nate and his relationships with Lisa and Brenda. Claire with her art obsession. David coming to terms being gay. Ruth trying to pursue relationships after being a widow.

I’m really going to miss the Fisher’s they were like family to me. But now I have to move on and find something else. If anyone has any recommendations please feel free to drop the name and the platform it’s on.

Thanks for reading as always!

Book Review/Dead of Winter

I’m doing my book review on Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates. If you don’t want to hear how review, just scroll along 🙂

When I first started reading Dead of Winter, I was really excited. The books I read by Darcy Coates so far were amazing. I loved her style of writing and also I am a big fan of horror. This book however, kind of threw me off. It started off with Christa and her boyfriend Kiernan going for what seemed like a romantic getaway to a lodge in the middle of the nowhere. However, it didn’t happen that way. The bus that they took along with other travelers were stranded because a tree had fallen and they couldn’t make it to the lodge. The travelers decided to try and get out of the snow storm that was coming down and they found a cabin. Not before Christa and Kiernan were separated from the group. Christa fell down an embarkment and was injured and she and Kiernan were then separated.

Christa made it back to a cabin that the group was nestled in and was abandoned. She wanted to look for Kiernan, but he was long gone and missing. With the blizzard of a snow storm, it was impossible to find him. They had to wait it out to look for him.

This is where the story takes a turn. One by one the people of the group get taken out. I mean they are murdered in cold blood. Nobody knows who is doing this and everyone is freaking out. In the meantime, they think that it’s one of their group that is staking out people’s lives. They fear for their lives and keep a close watch on each other. Many times they tried to escape the cabin to try and get help. They made it as far as the bus and saw a body laying on the ground without a head. Christa thought it was Kiernan and she found a ring in his pocket. She was even more upset because she thought he was going to propose to her. Christa wanted to stay with him but the storm was becoming wild again and they had to turn back to the cabin.

The days were running together and there were only a few of them left. It started with about 10 people. One night they managed to catch the killer and tied her up, but what they didn’t realize was that she wasn’t the killer at all. Christa came across her body mutilated. Christa took off when she saw a man Denny running after her with an axe. She ran as far as she could and made it to the lodge eventually. The doors were unlocked and dark but she was able to hide.

This is where a twist took place. Christa heard a struggle and Denny’s head rolled down the steps. She saw a man approaching her and it was Kiernan. She was so happy because she thought he had died. Until she realized that he was the killer.

The point of all of this, was Kiernan orchestrated this whole trip because his little brother drowned in a lake from a car accident and he was trapped. He wanted to pick off each person that had to do with his death. He left Christa for last. She managed to kill Kiernan and she was saved.

My thoughts

This book did have a lot of action in it. It did start off slow but then it picked up in the middle. The end of the book was the best part because it kept me on my toes. The book gave a lot of description which is great, but there were thing that didn’t make any sense. For example, when Christa was running away from Denny, she was using a flashlight and he could see the light and know where she was at all times. All in all I give this book 3.5 out of 5.

Disney Vacation

Wooohooo I survived Disney!! Six grueling days of walking and rides and I survived lol…I had such a blast though. I would probably do it again but not for years to come.

I enjoyed spending time with my family and my nephews. They were so cute, my youngest nephew who is ten was of course ten, meaning he was acting his age. Making fun of everything I was doing and what I looked like haha but hey he’s ten that’s expected. My other two nephews were a little older and they were fine. They just wanted to ride the rides. It was just really nice to get away.

The plane ride going there was fine. I was scared to death but my lovely mother bought me a drink so I could calm my nerves, which helped. I didn’t mind the flight at all. Heading home however, was a different story. We had to get up at three a.m. and be out front of the resort at three-thirty. My mom and I were exhausted. We arrived at the airport and our flight was supposed to be at 6:55, but it was delayed by about a half hour.  My brother and his family drove the nineteen hour drive home. I was grateful that our flight was two hours. Which was enough for me because I didn’t enjoy the flight home. I gave my mom a break by not freaking out on the plane. Instead I freaked out inside my head. I was thinking the worse of everything lol…but that’s just me. Anyways we made it home safe and I was super happy. Tired but happy.

So let me tell you what my favorite ride was and the worst was in my opinion. My favorite ride was the banshee ride in Pandora. OMG it was so real. It was amazing! It really felt like you were flying. You could smell the ocean and feel the breeze in your face. It was incredible! I don’t think nothing will ever compare to this ride. A close second was Soarin’. They put you in a chair with a harness and you sit there and you take off but there is a movie screen surrounding you and it felt like you were flying. You could smell the the different things and feel the wind blowing. It was pretty amazing! It took you around the world to different sites like the seven wonders of the world.

The worst ride I think was the Nemo one. Now first of all I love Nemo the movie, it was such a cute movie but the ride ugh. Second of all, we had to wait in this god awful line that was about an hour wait. When we finally get there we sit down and the ride lasted about 30 seconds and then it was over. I was so disappointed, but what could I expect for a kid ride. Also we did Mission: Space, which is in Epcot. There is a less intense ride and more intense ride. The first time we went to Epcot my mom and I went on the less intense ride and that was fine. The second time we went we decided to do the more intense ride and that was horrible for me. I was so dizzy and I couldn’t enjoy the ride at all. For me it was like when you drank a lot and had the spins. It was terrible. My mom thought it was fine but me, no way. I’ll never get on that ride again if I ever go again.

If you’re heading to Disney, prepare to walk a lot. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as well and hydrate. I went there and it was hot and I was sweating and I went through so much water. I had comfy shoes with me but my feet were still killing me. I feel like you should train as if you’re going on a marathon haha. We calculated that we walked about ten miles a day, so by the end we walked around sixty miles! Can you believe it!?

Other than that, it was a great trip! We went to Hollywood studios, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot. My favorite was Animal Kingdom. It had real animals and the rides were fun and of course they had the Tree of Life, which was amazing! Magic Kingdom was my least favorite because it was so crowded. If it wasn’t so crowded I would have enjoyed it more, but it was surrounded with screaming babies, toddlers, and kids. Loads and loads of kids. We did have dinner at Be Our Guest at the Beast’s castle which was neat. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie, so I was excited to eat there. We even got to meet the Beast and had our picture taken with him. It was great! All the roller coasters were fun too! If you’re into that.

All in all if you’re thinking about going to Disney, you should go!

P.S. The parade was amazing!

I swear by this…

I have to get this off my chest. It’s something wonderful don’t worry. Since February, I’ve been having this annoying issue with my mouth. I had thrush and it was off and on since February. I thought it was super strange that I kept on getting it. At the time I had a massive sinus infection. So on Super Bowl Sunday, when the Eagles were playing the Patriots, I dragged my husband to Urgent Care. I felt god awful and had a fever. They said at that time I had thrush and possibly the flu. They wouldn’t test me for the flu though because it was expensive. They gave me a prescription for the thrush and they gave me me Tamiflu. I ended up not taking the Tamiflu because I didn’t believe I had the flu. So I took the thrush medicine and it was cleared. The sinus infection wasn’t going away, so I went to my regular family doctor. They gave me a Z-pack and sent me on my merry way. I took the medicine and and when it was finished, I was fine for a couple days but the sinus infection came back.

I went back to the doctor and they gave me amoxicillin. I started taking that and soon after the thrush returned. I told the doctor and he gave me a pill form. However, I was taking heavy duty probiotics and my thrush went away. After I was done with the amoxicillin I started having issues with my stomach, which if people take amoxicillin then they know it can disturb your digestive system. The thrush came back yet again! At this point I was getting really frustrated, because I was in pain. So then I decided to take the pill form medication for the thrush. It didn’t really work, it just kept it at bay.

By this time I was super frustrated. The doctor told me that I should get some blood work done, because they were concerned. I’m a HUGE hypochondriac and of course I started freaking out. I did however, get the blood work done. That was two weeks ago. I have an appointment this week to discuss but I know there is nothing wrong because of the portal. The blood work was pretty much normal, so I don’t really have anything to worry about. At this point, I didn’t know why I kept on getting the thrush.

A week ago, I felt like shit. My mouth was in pain, meaning not my teeth, it was the thrush.

THIS IS WHERE IT GETS GOOD!

My mom contacted my aunt who is really into homeopathic remedies. She told my mom about oil pulling. Which you swish a specific oil, in my case MCT oil in your mouth for twenty minutes. I must tell you after I did that. I felt instant relief. I started taking a candida supplement which is a godsend. My mouth has done a complete 180 and I feel great. The MCT oil you also take 1 tablespoon a day. I do that as well, I make sure I eat something before I do so, because it can make your stomach uncomfortable.

My thrush was all cleared but there is still something going in there. I went to a dentist that my parents go to and he checked my mouth and saw nothing. Please note: He didn’t take X-rays. He referred me to an oral surgeon since he didn’t see anything. So I go to the oral surgeon, and again he didn’t take any x-rays. He looked all around my mouth and he said there’s nothing going on. I would think that all these dentists and doctors would at least take an x-ray to rule out anything. It’s like if you have a sore arm, your primary doctor would ask you to get an x-ray. It’s just weird. So now this week I have another appointment with a completely different dentist who has great reviews. Hopefully he’ll take x-rays, which I’m sure they will.

The MCT oil however, is definitely making me feel 99% better. If I didn’t have this weird taste in one part of my mouth I would be completely 100! Hopefully soon I will be. Maybe all I need is a cleaning, it’s been about a year so I’m overdue. Just tired of mouth issues.

Oh and before I forget, the thrush that I was getting all the time is because of stress. I am overwhelmed in my life by various things and the candida I was diagnosed with caused the thrush to happen. I’m trying to manage my stress. I just wanted to let you know MCT oil really does work, it’s a miracle. Without it I would be in terrible shape.

MCT is derived from Coconut oil. It is really beneficial to your health and can do some good for you and your body. It’s good for your digestion and it’s even good for weight management among other things. I’m grateful that my aunt recommended this to me.

Book Promo

Hey there my fellow readers!

I wanted to let you know that starting tomorrow 2/1 thru 2/3, I will be doing a FREE book promo for my novel From Within on Kindle. The reason for this decision is because I finally finished the sequel which is called Forward to the Past. It will be out next week sometime, if I’m lucky sooner then that.

Please share and pass this around! I can’t wait for this book to come out. I’ve been working on it for awhile and at times it was super hard. My mind would go blank and then I couldn’t write for awhile. I always take a break for a little bit if something like that happens to me.

I’ll give you a little sneak peak into what to expect:

Bianca Yates, who is the daughter of Chelsea can see spirits from the time she is born. When she graduates, she moves to San Diego to live with her grandmother. She falls in love with a guy who actually has the same gift as she does. They stumble upon a portal and  they jump in not knowing to expect…

That’s all I’m going to give you. It’s pretty different then the first one but it ties in together.

Thanks everyone for the support!

Review # 2

My second review is going to be on the book The Nightingale, by Kristin Hannah. If you haven’t read this book then you shouldn’t read this post because there are spoilers.

My first thought of this book even before I started reading it was eh, I’m not sure I’ll be into all this war stuff. I had to read it though because I love Kristin Hannah. She’s one of my favorite authors. As I started to read the book, she got me sucked in again. This book has so many aspects of it. It has love, it has violence, it has strong willed women, brave soldiers, combat. you name it, it has it. I just couldn’t put it down.

It takes place right before the start of WWII. Isabelle and Vianne are sisters who blatantly seem to loath each other. The war breaks out and Vianne is left with her toddler daughter, while her husband leaves her for battle. Isabelle, the younger sister of Vianne feels like a burden. Nobody wants her but she’s supposed to be this gorgeous girl that all the men want if that makes sense. Her sister doesn’t want anything to do with her and her father is a drunk who also wants nothing to do with her.

Isabelle is a strong a fierce girl. She lets nothing stand in her way. She is eager to fight the Germans so she can win her country, France, back. She leaves her sister and decides to go out on her own and take a stand with others that feel the same way as she does. Along the way she meets this French man, who from what I imagine is a very handsome man. His name is Gaetan. She falls in love with him but he finds her just a girl and very complicated. They part ways and she doesn’t seem him until much later in the story.

Vianne eventually has Germans billeting in her home and feels herself falling for him, which is a big no no. Her husband has been away for sometime and wonders if he’ll ever come back.

Isabelle gets into some trouble down the road and hoards airmen to keep them safe against the Germans. She hides them and rescues them and sets them free into a safe zone. This is where she is now called the Nightingale. Her name is Isabelle Rossignol, also meaning ‘Nightingale’.

The story goes on as Vianne ends up killing the German soldier that’s living in her house, who she was falling for. All because he was ready to kill her sister Isabelle, who was hiding an airman in Vianne’s cellar below the ground in the barn.

Vianne yells for Isabelle to leave her alone and to never come back again. She does as she is told.

Later on in the story, Isabelle is captured and sent to a concentration camp where she is left to die. Vianne meanwhile, is getting raped by the new German that is staying at her home. She winds up getting pregnant. By this time the war is almost over. He leaves the house and never returns. Isabelle is in such a state that she is dying.

Antoine, Vianne’s husband escapes the prison and heads home. Only to find that the two of them are very different then they were. She doesn’t tell him about the pregnancy, so they make love and makes him believe she got pregnant that very night he comes home.

The end Isabelle finally comes home to Vianne’s and they apologize profusely. Gaetan finds her again and confesses his love for her, but it is too late. Isabelle has died in his arms, but she heard him tell her that he loved her. That’s all she needed to hear.

I am amazed at this story. It was well written and very well researched. Kristin Hannah did it again by taking the characters and bringing them to life. I smiled, I cried, I was angry, and I was shocked. So many emotions in a book that I couldn’t believe. This has got to be my favorite one by far from her. She captured everything so well. She did a wonderful job of story-telling where I felt like I was right there with them all of them.

I applaud her for this novel. They’re making a motion picture of this one and I cant wait to see it, to see if it coincides with the book. Sometimes they change things around, which is understandable. But come on, this was just amazing. Through and through.

Snow Day

Woo hoo it was a snow day today in Eastern Pennsylvania and pretty much anywhere else that takes place in the vicinity, including Delaware and Jersey. With that I took advantage of a writing day. I wrote and wrote until I had to take a break from it. I then watched some shows I rarely get to watch, cleaned my house, and hung out with the hubby which is really rare.

I discovered a new writing place for books called Wattpad. What this is a place where you can read other peoples works for FREE. I decided to give it a shot. I mean why not, I feel like I’ll take anything to get my novels out there. I’ve been sending my manuscripts to small publishers and have yet to hear anything. Anyway click Here for my Wattpad profile. There you can read my novel Braver Than Yesterday for free. I will hold off on putting my second novel From Within on there because I want to finish the sequel first. I am almost finished with it. They still are on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

I hope where ever you are, if there is snow and freezing cold, I hope you stay safe and stay warm. A lot of the country seems to be going through a deep freeze.
