Review # 11

I’m very excited to review this next book. It’s called Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. I gave this book five stars. It was amazing!

Here comes the spoilers in case you want to read this book yourself.

WARNING: SPOILERS

Garden Spells is about the Waverly family. Claire and Sydney. They are sisters that are the complete opposite. Sydney was a wild child while Claire was a homebody, who did right by everyone.

The Waverly’s were highly popular in their cozy North Carolina town. They were popular and well known because they were something magical. They knew things and things would happen when they were around. They weren’t per say witches, but there was something to them. The townspeople didn’t really care for them because they were different. Claire however, always tried to make people like her. She was a caterer and made wonderful meals that everyone loved. She tried to please everyone.

There was Evanelle, an Aunt from what I gathered who also lived in town. She had the power of giving things to people when they need them. A lot of people in town were afraid of her because you never know what she could give you. It was like something called to her and she needed to give it you right away. It could be in the middle of the night and she would have to get it to you.

Sydney ran away from her home where she was living with her daughter Bay and her boyfriend David. David was a bad man. He would beat Sydney within inches of her life, so she and Bay decided to move away from there and back home with Claire, who hadn’t seen her in years. They didn’t always get a long and didn’t see eye to eye.

So when Sydney showed up out of nowhere with a daughter who is five years old, Claire was shocked. She didn’t know what to think about all of this. Sydney wouldn’t tell her anything about the life she was living.

As time passed, the girls became closer. A man named Tyler lived next door to them and Claire had a thing for him, but it was more like he had one for her. You see there was an apple tree that was planted in the Waverly’s backyard. It had a mind of it’s own. It would throw apples and it would spread it’s branches out. It liked the attention. It was magic. It was said that if you ate one of those apples, you would see the one thing you were destined for. It would be either horribly devastating or wonderful.

Tyler ate one of those apples and he saw something that he never imagined. He saw Claire. She pushed him away as much as she could, she didn’t want love or to get hurt. However, there was something about him that drew her in.

Sydney spent a lot of time with Tyler because they were becoming great friends. They would tell each other everything and he would talk about Claire all the time.

Claire would make her infamous magical food to wean people away from her, but it didn’t work on Tyler. She couldn’t stay away from him any longer.

Sydney found Henry, a boy she knew since grade school. She just wanted to be friends with him, but Henry didn’t want that and it took him a good chunk of the book to tell her. At the end, she realized that she loved him. She kissed him to be sure, and it was pure electric. There was one thing though, there was David. The ex.

David pops in at the end of the story during a party that Claire and Sydney are throwing. He carries a gun with him and he shoots Henry in the shoulder. Bay hid away from David, she didn’t want anything to do with him. The tree threw an apple at him, thinking it came from Bay and he ate it. What he saw a few seconds later changed everything. He dropped the gun and he fled.

In the end David gets caught and goes to prison. They believe he saw his death in jail. Henry and Sydney spoke about marriage and Bay became incredibly happy. Claire and Tyler end up together with a baby and an engagement.

They all lived happily ever after.

That was my review of Garden Spells. I know what I wrote didn’t do the book justice but it’s only a tad of what this book is about. If I had to compare it to anything, it reminded me of Practical Magic.

Review # 1

So in today’s blog I like to discuss Netflix’s original series Black Mirror. I’ve been watching it since season one and season four just came out.

If you enjoy shows like the Twilight Zone I recommend this show. It’s full of craziness and futuristic gadgets.  I don’t know what I like about this show so much, but it has this appeal to me that I can’t really stop watching.

Every episode is completely different and the concept that they come up with is even more elaborate then the previous one. I do have to admit some episodes I can’t get over and other episodes I’m glad they’re over haha.

The episode that I just watched in season four really stuck in my mind. The episode is called ‘Hang the DJ.’ It takes place in the future and it’s basically a dating game. They hone in on this particular couple. So what happens is these young people in their twenties have this device and it tells them who they are matched with at the time. Basically it tells them who they have to date and for a limited amount of time.

The guy and girl that the episode is about are matched together in the beginning of the show and they hit it off. They last about twelve hours before the system tells them that its over. They go their separate ways and the system provides them with more relationships. Many of which are just one night stands.

The guy ends up in a relationship that ends up being a year. They both can’t stand each other but they have to be together because if they don’t they will get punished.

During the course of the show they are with other people but then they get matched together again. They are happy and you can tell they are in love with each other. They made a deal to never look at how much time they have left together.

The guy couldn’t help himself after a few days. He didn’t want it to end but he needed to know. So he checks and it said five years. But then there was a malfunction and it cut down the time by a lot. Instead of years its now hours.

He wants to tell the girl but he doesn’t want to hurt her, because ultimately he broke his promise. She knows something is wrong and he ends up telling her. She walks away from him hurt. She was most upset that he broke his promise.

Many relationships later she realizes that she is in love with the guy that hurt her. She hears a ting from her system that she will be matched with her life partner. She asks if he’s the guy and it tells her no. However, she gets to see him one more time.

Before she goes on her date with the guy for the last time. She throws her system into a pool and runs to see him. She is ecstatic to see him and they start kissing. Everyone in the restaurant looks shocked. They only had a minute together. She told him to throw it away so they could be together.

He agreed and got up and they started walking out of the restaurant. The people who were in charge of the system were going to stop them but something happened. Everything and everyone froze. They ran to the wall to climb over it. As they were climbing the whole thing resetted. It was actually a simulation. It then started all over again.

Basically this episode stuck out to me because the concept was so off the wall. It was very futuristic, it made me think if this could really happen.

If you ever get the chance, watch this show! You won’t be disappointed!

That’s all I’m going to say on that. Until next time 🙂

Catching up

Its been awhile since I’ve wrote anything on my blog so I wanted to do some catching up. The year is about to end. It’s crazy how fast the year went.

It was a year ago about a week ago since I published my first novel Braver Than Yesterday (formerly known as Not Alone). I’ve had such a wonderful time experiencing everything that had to do with the writing. Whether it was from the book signings that took place this year to even finishing my second novel From Within. I feel so blessed to have this gift of creativity bestowed upon me. I always wanted to do writing but I was always afraid to dabble with it.

This year I also took a writing course to brush up on skills. It was very informative and interesting. I enjoyed writing stories in the class. I wrote my very first short story and felt compelled to send it to some magazines but have yet to hear from them. It’s all good though, at least I tried.

Also this year I got a second job to help out with bills, which actually hasn’t been too bad. I don’t mind it really.

I lost my grandfather this year which was really sad. I will sure miss him.

There were some health scares in my family but nothing major so that’s good.

In the coming year I’m hoping for some new things. I’m hoping to pick up an agent for my novels. I’m hoping to complete at least two novels this year.

I also would love to expand my family this year. So we’ll see what happens with that. I’m ready for 2018 to be the best year yet. How about you?

Event

Well it’s official I’m doing another event at the author expo in Bensalem, PA. I received the email last night. I’m super excited. I think this is a great way to meet people and other authors. This event will take place in the beginning of November, as it becomes closer I’ll talk more about it. That is all I know so far.

I was hoping to finish the sequel to From Within but it’s taking longer then expected so I don’t think it will be ready unfortunately. Sometimes I get writers block so I need to take a break. I’m about half done but it still needs a lot of work.

Anyway super excited for the event!! I’ll talk more soon! Have a great Thursday everyone!

Experience

This past weekend I was able to experience something that I was really excited about. There was a local author expo that took place in my area that I decided to be a part of. I thought it was a wonderful experience. I was able to connect with other authors and see how they ran the show since this was my first time. I was really ecstatic when it started and I had my first sale right away. The teenage girls seemed to track me down and read the back of my books and fell in love. You see there were these pamphlets that were given out to everyone about the authors and what genre the authors typically write about. I sold a few copies that day and felt even more special when I signed them. They were so excited and they asked for advice because some wanted to be future writers. I will be attending another expo in November that is even closer to where I live so I’m hoping more people will show up. This definitely made me want to write even more! I loved that it brought joy to people young and old.

Another thing I wanted to talk about is that I decided to do a giveaway on Goodreads for my novel Braver Than Yesterday. So starting on Thursday the giveaway will start and it will last about a month until October 14th.

I also decided for a limited time I wanted to do a promotion for Braver Than Yesterday the kindle version on Amazon. So if you click on the link you can download it for free for today only! I would love for those that download and read it to also review it. Reviews are always a plus 🙂

Also, one last thing the sequel to From Within is coming along and hoping to have it ready within the next month or so! Very excited for this one!

So a few pieces of news for you lovely people out there that love to read thrillers/suspense novels there you go! I hope you enjoy and thanks so much for the love and support.

The Perfect Ad

Writing the perfect ad for your book is hard. I’ve been trying to come up with something for both of my novels for an ad and to be honest I’m having a hard time because you want your book to sell. What sells your book? A very well thought out ad. Something that catches the eye and draws you in. I must’ve changed the ad a gazillion times to try and get it right in my ear. I would run it over and over with my husband and he’s like yea try this or yea that sounds good. It’s really hard but it needs to be done. It’s my lively hood so I want to do right by it.

My first novel has a lot of sex, rape, love, & lesbianism in it. I know some of that is controversial but hey it’s what’s on my mind. People like to read that shit!

My second novel is about a girl that dies and comes back to life seeing spirits. Nothing like the first one but I like different! Wait until the sequel comes out.

Hopefully the ads work for both on Goodreads. Look me up if you haven’t already.

I’m Back..

I’m back from vacation, and yes I stated that in my last blog but I wanted to say it again because truly I am. I wrote a little bit and I’m trying to get back into the groove of things. My house is a mess so I’m in the process of cleaning but wanted to take a short break so I could write my blog. I’m feeling annoyed because my English bulldog is crying in my face for attention. I spoil the hell out of him, but who could blame me? He’s my kid 🙂

So anyways I’m feeling pretty good about my ideas for my next novels. I’m continuing the writing of my sequel to my second novel From Within. I have some pretty good ideas for a few other novels in mind, so that’s pretty exciting. My mind feels powerful when I write. It’s amazing the possibilities that can come out of it.

I really needed a break from everything and let my mind unwind for a bit. Sometimes you need that. I know I did. With working full time and trying to write and taking care of things around the house it can get pretty hectic sometimes. I’m hoping one day to carry out my goal and life long dream of being a full time writer/novelist. It’s about the only thing that makes me happy these days. The escape from reality that can I put down on paper. To escape to a faraway land that you’ve never been before. I love it!

I just wanted to thank everyone that has supported me along this journey. Also the people who read my books. I appreciate it very much! Hope ya’ll have a lovely Sunday!

Vacation

I just got home from vacation with the hubby and I have real interesting ideas for my next novel or novels. I’m really excited about it!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July as I did. I didn’t do much, I watched fireworks from the vicinity of my home.

I just wanted to check in with everyone and let everyone know I am on Goodreads and I changed the kindle cover to my first novel Braver Than Yesterday. The paperback will remain the same. I hope everyone will check it out.

Have a good weekend everyone!! Thanks for the support!

Why not

Writing for a living is a struggle, well for me it is. I’m trying to do it for a living and well it’s not turning out very well. Writing takes structure and words and well thought out planning. You give your life to it and what do you get in return? Nothing really, I mean yeah the desire that you wrote this piece of art and you let everyone read it. Words that pour from your soul onto a piece of paper. Some people don’t even care about it. They look at it and go eh and that’s it. I’m hoping for more then that.
Have you ever seen Girl Boss? I want that life. The life where you don’t care what people say, you’re going to do it anyway and your way. If writing makes me happy so be it, I want to be happy! I want to be my own boss, I want to write and sell my books. I want to wake up each morning knowing that somewhere in the world there is someone reading my book. That shit makes me happy and there is no one that can tell me otherwise. So thanks to everyone who purchased my novels and to those who read it. You are the best people in this world because you’re a passionate reader and you took the time out of your busy life to read the words that I wrote! I appreciate YOU!
Don’t take shit from anyone! You do what you want to do!

A Big Thank You

I wanted to give a big thank you to everyone who ordered my book during my promotion. It’s amazing the response I got from it. I’m hoping this will boost sales and reviews. I couldn’t believe it when I woke up in the morning and a ton already went out. It’s an amazing feeling that people actually wanted it. So from the bottom of my heart thank you!

If you haven’t checked it out: it’s on Amazon on sale for kindle and on paperback if you don’t do the digital thing. I know personally I love to feel a book in my hand. I do have both a nook and a kindle but I always go back to the physical book. It’s just something about it that gives me that feeling. I don’t know maybe I’m weird lol but I love it. My novel Braver Than Yesterday is soaring don’t be left out in the dark 🙂 Thanks again everyone!! I really do appreciate it!!
