Sopranos Review

I finally watched The Sopranos, and I honestly understand now why so many people call it the greatest TV show ever made. I went in expecting a mafia series, but I got so much more than that. It’s about family, loyalty, mental health, love, betrayal, and the consequences of every choice people make.

Tony Soprano is one of the most fascinating characters I’ve ever watched. One minute you’re rooting for him, the next you’re questioning everything he does. James Gandolfini absolutely disappears into the role. It’s one of those performances that you forget you’re watching an actor.

What surprised me most was how funny the show could be. Even in the darkest moments, there were scenes that had me laughing out loud. Every character felt real, flaws and all, which made every relationship feel believable.

The writing is incredible. There are no cheap twists or pointless drama. Every conversation, every look, every decision means something. It’s the kind of show that stays with you long after the credits roll, and I already know I’ll be watching it again because there’s no way you catch everything the first time.

This isn’t just a mob show. It’s a character study wrapped inside one of the best crime dramas ever created. If you’ve never seen The Sopranos, do yourself a favor and watch it. And if you’ve already seen it, you know exactly why people still talk about it all these years later.

⚠️ Spoilers Ahead ⚠️

The Sopranos follows Tony Soprano, the boss of a New Jersey crime family who is secretly battling panic attacks and depression. At the start of the series, he begins seeing psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Melfi, creating one of the show’s most unique storylines as Tony tries to reconcile his violent life with his personal struggles. Throughout the series, Tony constantly juggles his responsibilities as a mob boss with being a husband to Carmela and a father to Meadow and A.J.

Tony’s family life is anything but stable. His mother, Livia, is manipulative and emotionally abusive, eventually conspiring with his uncle Junior to have Tony murdered after believing he is a threat. The assassination attempt fails, but it permanently changes Tony’s relationship with both of them. Livia later dies before the two can ever reconcile.

As the series progresses, Tony’s closest relationships begin to unravel. His nephew Christopher Moltisanti struggles with heroin and alcohol addiction while trying to prove himself in the Mafia. Despite Tony treating Christopher like a son and grooming him to become his successor, Christopher repeatedly disappoints him. In one of the series’ most shocking moments, Tony suffocates Christopher after a car crash, convincing himself that Christopher’s addiction had become too dangerous and that he would never truly change.

Tony’s best friend, Silvio Dante, remains one of his most loyal advisors throughout the series, while Paulie Gualtieri’s paranoia and selfishness often create tension within the crew. Bobby Baccalieri, initially seen as one of the more gentle mobsters, eventually becomes more involved in violence after marrying Tony’s sister, Janice. Bobby is later murdered in a model train store as New York’s war against Tony’s family intensifies.

Carmela struggles for years with Tony’s constant infidelity. Although she briefly separates from him and considers building a life without him, she ultimately returns, choosing financial security and family over leaving the marriage for good. Their relationship remains complicated until the very end.

Tony’s children also face their own challenges. Meadow grows into a successful, intelligent young woman and eventually becomes engaged to Patrick Parisi, the son of one of Tony’s associates. Over time, she becomes increasingly accepting of her father’s criminal lifestyle. A.J., however, spirals into depression, has difficulty finding purpose, and even attempts suicide in the family’s swimming pool. Tony rescues him, but A.J. continues struggling with adulthood throughout the series.

The conflict between Tony’s New Jersey family and Phil Leotardo’s New York crew eventually erupts into an all-out mob war. Several of Tony’s closest allies are murdered, Silvio is left comatose after being shot, and Tony is forced into hiding. The war finally ends when Tony authorizes Phil’s assassination. Phil is brutally killed at a gas station, bringing the conflict to a close.

The series ends with one of television’s most famous and debated finales. Tony meets Carmela, Meadow, and A.J. at Holsten’s diner for dinner. As Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” plays, suspicious people enter the restaurant, including a man in a Members Only jacket who walks toward the restroom. Meadow struggles to parallel park before finally entering the diner. Just as she walks through the door and Tony looks up, the screen abruptly cuts to black.

The ending has been debated for years, but many fans and critics believe Tony is assassinated at that exact moment. The sudden blackout reflects Tony’s own perspective, echoing an earlier conversation in which another mobster describes death as something you never see coming: “You probably don’t even hear it when it happens.” Others interpret the ending as intentionally ambiguous, leaving Tony’s fate unresolved.

More than a crime drama, The Sopranos is a story about family, power, guilt, mental illness, and the emotional cost of a life built on violence. Its morally complex characters, unforgettable performances, and daring ending helped redefine what television storytelling could be, cementing its reputation as one of the greatest TV series ever made.

I give this four stars. I was blown away!

Maybe a fresh start?

Okay, so it has been a while since I wrote anything here. I have been struggling with the whole writing thing until last night.

So, I just got home and I had a glass of wine. I hopped on the couch to take in the crazy thunder storms that we were having and I glanced at the TV. I started watching this movie I never saw before or heard of. The movie is called How to Build a Girl. It’s about this teenage girl that seems to want to find herself. The movie seems to start off with the main character named Johanna, who seems a bit nerdy feeling depressed and hard on herself. She loves writing and somehow she stumbles upon this rock and roll critic magazine job. She’s only 16 or 17, and she becomes an instant success. She turns herself into this wild child. She dyes her hair bright red, wears bright red lipstick with full glam makeup, and dresses gothically. She called herself Dolly Wilde. Me personally, I loved it! The outfits the character wore would be what I would wear if I had the balls to. She wore fishnet stockings, short shorts, numerous different provocative tops. The girl could pull it off though.

The story took place in Ireland I think. I couldn’t quite grasp it. Anyway, the point of me writing about this is that the girl had a lot of ups and downs throughout. She was laughed at, made fun of by her so called co-workers, yet she bounced back and kicked ass in the writing world.

Now me personally, I’ve had a lot of struggles with writing lately. If you follow me on here, you know I have wrote a few books. However, I am a self published author. This got me thinking though, maybe I should blog more. Write about my personal self and/or things that I feel strongly about. I love writing, but something has me down.

I remember when I wrote my first novel, it took me literally two weeks to write. I can barely get two words in now in a given day.

Watching that movie last night, opened a door for me. I think it gave me a kick in the ass hopefully in the right direction. We shall see!

Look forward to writing to you soon 🙂

Halloween

As the holidays are approaching rapidly I’m pulled to one of my favorite holidays, which is Halloween. I love it! The ghouls and goblins come out and it’s just a downright scary holiday. I love scary anything so this fits me to a T. My favorite genre of film is horror/science fiction. Stephen King is my favorite author so I can’t go wrong there. Last night I went on to Netflix and was excited to finally see Gerald’s Game was out so I immediately turned it on. Let me tell you, don’t watch this flick by yourself. After it was over I went outside to let my dogs out and I was scared shitless! I literally freaked myself out and ran back in the house hahaa it was pretty hilarious. So if you haven’t seen that then I recommend you watch it. I also since I’m a huge fan of the King I decided to watch the series The Mist. I have seen the movie but I was intrigued with what the series held. I turned it on and it was so different, different I mean then the movie. Of course the CGI was a lot better but I wasn’t all that impressed with the acting skills in that show. I will continue to watch it however because I only watched one episode and I was kind of stoked because the woman from the Vikings is in it.

So besides the movies and the television shows, there are books. I love horror novels as well. They give me a type of thrill and rush, especially Stephen King’s. So being that it is Halloween I recommend picking up a good thrilling novel. I just read Black Magick by an acquaintance of mine and I couldn’t put it down. It was thrilling and scary and it had just the right amount of evil in it. Whether you celebrate Halloween or not you can still enjoy a good spooky novel.

What Makes You Happy?

I want to know what makes you happy, what catches your eye? I would really like to hear some feedback from everyone. It’s fun to hear other ideas being thrown around.

I like to listen to music, I guess it depends on what kind of mood I’m in. I could be on a high and want to listen to something poppy, or I could be in a sensitive mood and want to listen to Country, or in a mellow mood and listen to New Age. I’m all about the music and it making you feel good. They say music is a form of therapy, I believe it. It could turn your world from bad to good. It’s an amazing thing what music could do.

Yoga definitely makes me happy. It helps with stress, which I tend to get a lot of at times. I try and go at least three times a week. It just feels so amazing. Usually I’ll go to yoga and I feel like frazzled and then I’ll leave yoga a completely different person. I love it!

Reading is another thing that makes me happy. I like to read all kind of genres. Whatever pulls me in for a good read, I’m there. Currently I’m reading “The Girl on the Train.” I have seen the movie though, but was very interested in reading the book. What kind of books do y’all prefer to read? Don’t forget to check out my novel Not Alone on Amazon, I had to throw that in there haha.

Movies is another thing that makes me happy. I love movies and I have a ton of them at home. I have Netflix and I have Firestick so I always have movies to watch. My favorite kind of movies are scary movies, it’s an adrenaline thing. I do like all kinds of movies though, Romance, Comedies, Action, whatever. It all thrills me. What kind of movies do you like?

My fur babies make me happy. I have two kitties and two doggies and when I wake up in the morning, I see them and it makes me so happy. I love them so much. I’m such an animal lover. If I could have like 5 dogs I would, but I can’t 🙂

I can’t forget the last thing, writing makes me absolutely happy. Writing my blogs, writing my books, just writing in general. I just really enjoy it.

So please tell me, what makes you happy?
